What is AzSCA's Mission?

The Arizona School Counselors Association Inc., supports school counselors through professional development, resources, and advocacy at the state and national level. We empower school counselors to lead systemic change by delivering to each student a comprehensive school counseling program, aligned with the ASCA National Model and state standards for academic, social/emotional and career development.

What does a member of the Board of Directors do?

The nine-member Board of Directors represent the diverse needs and perspectives of ALL Arizona school counselors. They oversee our Ends Policies and ensure that our organization is fiscally responsible and stays focused on our Strategic Plan. The Board of Directors also oversees contractors and committee work. 

What is the time commitment?

Members of the Board of Directors serve three-year terms. The full board meets quarterly. The Board of Directors meets more frequently, usually by phone or Zoom.

Who is eligible to run for a position?

To be eligible to run for a Board position, the individual must be:
  • A current member of AzSCA
  • A current member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
  • A Certified School Counselor active in the state of Arizona

Up to one position on the Board of Directors may be filled by a post-secondary representative who may or may not be a Certified School Counselor.

How do I apply?

Applications are accepted online beginning December 1, 2022. The deadline to apply is January 29, 2021. Application information includes:

  • Resume / CV detailing the applicant's professional experience and education
  • A description of the applicant's leadership experience
  • The applicant's professional memberships
  • A position statement detailing the applicant's vision for serving on the AzSCA Board of Directors

When does voting occur?

Voting information will be communicated to AzSCA members beginning in February 2022. Voting will open at the AzSCA Conference Membership Meeting on February 8. Voting will remain open through March 1.  Elected board members will be expected to begin serving in June 2022.
